The Year in Cardiology 2012: heart failure.
نویسنده
چکیده
In 2012 there were a number of important advances within the clinical arena of heart failure. Recent new evidence was dissected, analysed, synthesized, and incorporated into the new European Society of Cardiology Heart Failure Guideline 2012 which will facilitate the translation of clinical research in heart failure into improved patient care. In addition there were new therapeutic treatment trials presented at two of the major scientific meetings, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress in Munich and most recently, the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions in Los Angeles. Interestingly, these focused on two areas of great unmet need in heart failure therapy, acute heart failure (AHF) and heart failure with preserved left ventricular function (HFPEF). This article summarizes the main heart failure highlights of the new guideline and those two meetings.

Vein of Galen Aneurysmal Malformation and High-output Cardiac Failure in a Newborn
Background: Vein of Galen aneurysm (VGA) is the most common form of symptomatic cerebrovascular malformation in neonates. It develops in a fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy due to unknown reasons, but it is likely to have a genetic etiology. The prognosis of VGA is usually poor, particularly in newborns with heart failure due to high-flow intracerebral shunt. Surgery and endovascular em...
متن کاملCor Triatriatum Sinistrum Presenting as Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease A Rare Case Report
Cor triatriatum is an acyanotic congenital heart disease. We present a rare case of cor triatriatum sinistrum in a 6-month-old female infant who was presented with cyanosis and failure to thrive. The 2D transthoracic echocardiography and the Doppler color flow imaging showed a proximal venous chamber communicating to the distal left atrium through restrictive opening to the low-pressure, dis...

Background: Congenital heart diseases are the second group of congenital anomalies in infants. These disorders are a major cause of death in the first year of a child's life. Early detection helps to treat these diseases better. In this study cardiology consultations of hospitalized infants in the neonatal intensive care unit were evaluated. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, two hundred ...
متن کاملThe role of biventricular assistance in primary graft failure after heart transplantation.
A 37-year-old man suffered from systolic heart failure as a result of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy since 1995 and was followed up in our cardiology department. In June 2006, the patient arrived at our outpatient clinic with an acute renal impairment and all manifestations of acute heart failure. He was already registered on the waiting list for heart transplantation (Eurotransplant) as a h...
متن کاملThe cardioprotective effects of 4-O-(2″-O-acetyl-6″-O- p-coumaroyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl)-p-coumaric acid (4-ACGC) on chronic heart failure
The 4-ACGC isolated from BP was prepared to investigate the cardioprotective effects on attenuating chronic heart failure in vivo and in vitro. A chronic heart failure (CHF) rat model was established to investigate the cardioprotective effects of 4-ACGC. From this, several cardiac function indexes were recorded. The inflammatory markers including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), Interleukin-6 (...
